Issue # 3 – The Bible: Just Another Book?
The Messianic Prophecies
Many Old Testament writers foretold, with incredible accuracy, details about the coming Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. The elapsed time between prophecy and fulfillment was sometimes thousands of years. EVERY ONE OF THE LISTED PROPHECIES HAS BEEN FULFILLED:
1.) The prophet Isaiah prophesied Jesus would be born of a virgin.
2.) Moses prophesied Jesus would be a descendant of Abraham, as well as of Isaac and Jacob.
3.) Moses also foretold that, of the twelve tribes of Israel, Jesus would be born of the tribe of Judah.
4.) Micah predicted, by the power of God, the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
5.) David stated that kings from the East would bring gifts to the babe.
6.) Jeremiah foretold the slaying of innocent babies (in an attempt to kill the Christ-child).
7.) The Old Testament tells of His rejection by His own people, by the Gentiles (non-Jews), and the betrayal by a friend (Judas).
8.) The purchase of Potter’s field was prophesied by Jeremiah.
9.) The buffeting and scourging of Jesus was prophesied, as was His crucifixion.
10.) It was foretold that lots (dice) would be cast for His garments.
11.) It was prophesied Jesus would be buried with the rich, He would be raised from the dead and ascend into heaven.
There is zero possibility that all these prophecies could be fulfilled by coincidence in one person. It should be mentioned there are also many Old and New Testament prophecies regarding the second coming of Christ when He will come, not as a babe in a manger, but as King. He will come to rule the nations. As the prophecies of the first coming of Christ were so accurately fulfilled, so the prophecies of His second coming will likewise occur. His second coming is very, very soon. The Bible: just another book? What is your verdict, Judge?
