Issue # 10 – Jesus Christ: King of Kings and Lord of Lords
HE WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN
It is impossible to be born of a virgin. Mary, a young girl from Nazareth, Israel, certainly knew that. That is why she doubted the angel Gabriel who appeared to her saying, “You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.”
Mary asked, “How can this be since I do not know a man?”
Gabriel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come over you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you.”
And so the impossible happened. Jesus entered mankind through the body of an obedient virgin. The birth took place in Bethlehem, the city of David, Mary’s ancestor. The virgin birth was a fulfillment of prophecy given by God to the prophet Isaiah hundreds of years previous, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bare a Son.” Jesus Himself taught, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” How fitting that the most unique Person who ever lived was born in a most unique manner. And His birth was but an initiation into a life whereby the miraculous was the ordinary.
